Managing the Mental Load

How to Manage the Mental Load of Motherhood During the Pandemic

Going, going, going, and then suddenly the world stopped, literally! In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic changed life as we know it forever. One year later, we are still in the midst of the pandemic praying every day that things will get better. We went from daily routines and outings to everyone being at home together trying to remotely work, attend virtual school and manage life the best we can.

Show Notes

I bet you have said to yourself at one time or another: “This is too much”, “I can’t do this anymore”, “I feel like I’m losing my mind”. or “There has to be more to life than this.” I get it, this is an unfamiliar time.  Add to that the pressures that already come with being a mother and caring for your family, life is pretty hectic right now.

While you may be settling into a rhythm after all this time, moms are still being significantly impacted by this pandemic. From having to work/run a business and be a homeschool teacher, master chef, etc to losing jobs, child care struggles, and or being forced to choose between work and their family, the mental distress mothers are experiencing is at an all-time high.

After almost a year of lockdowns, social distancing, and mask-wearing, it is so easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious and frustrated. You may even experience emotions that you can’t even assign any words. That is perfectly okay.

We are living in a state of collective trauma that is disproportionality affecting women, especially working mothers. Yes, Covid-19 is trauma and we are all living it and getting through this the best way we can.  Although this is a difficult time and you don’t know what will happen from one day to the next, there are certain things you can do to better manage life during this time.

In this episode, I share:

  • What is collective trauma
  • How it presents itself in your daily life
  • The struggle with collective trauma
  • 3 tips to help navigate this trauma

I know it feels like this will never end, but this too shall pass. One day this pandemic will be a part of history, but for now, do your best to hang in there and get through it.
