Why Dorney Park is the Perfect Amusement Park for the Whole Family

My family and I just got back from a family fun day out at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom in Pennsylvania & as usual, it did not disappoint. Keep reading to hear (& see) our family adventure to Dorney Park.

Dorney Park is a fun place for the whole family

Living in Delaware, we have been going to Dorney Park since I was child and now that I have my own family, the tradition continues. Just a short 1 hour and 30 minute drive from our home, the trip is definitely worth it.

What I like the most about Dorney Park is the water park and amusement park all covered in one ticket price. Most places you go, you have to pay for an additional admission to access the water park, however Dorney lets you enjoy the whole trip for one reasonable price.

Once inside the park, you will find rides and accommodations for everyone. Planet Snoopy is a great place for the kids while the adults and bigger kids can enjoy rides such as Steel Force, Hydra, and Kaleidoscope.

Accessibility is a Plus at Dorney Park

Dorney Park has many great features but the one thing I love the most is how accessible  everything is. Having multiple sclerosis and my mom having issues with her leg and spine, we knew we had to get electric wheelchairs to make it through the day. A trip to the gift shop and after a little bit of paperwork, we were able to secure our rides for the day. I like the fact that most paths are accessible and it didn’t take a lot of maneuvering to navigate the wheelchairs through the park.

Dorney also has a boarding pass program which helps families with disabilities gain easy access to rides. We usually take advantage of this program because of my nephew and daughter who each have different needs, however having the Fast Pass Plus this go around eliminated the need to get a boarding pass. However, to get a boarding pass you go to Ride Services and speak with an employee who ask several qualifying questions. From there they tell you which pass you qualify for including:

  • one specific to light sensitivities (i.e. for people with epilepsy) which tells you which rides you can/cannot rides
  • the line saver pass which allows you to stand in line for someone who has difficulties standing in line for long periods of time
  • enter at the exit for those with accessibility concerns and who need assistance with standing, walking, moving about.
These are programs we usually use however, we had the Fast Pass Plus so we didn’t need to use the passes that day.

The Best Part of the Day at Dorney Park

My favorite part of the day was riding Thunder Canyon. I loved it because even with my disability it was a ride I could enjoy and it was great for the whole family. The dips and turns and unexpected waterfalls are sure to get everyone soaking wet. It was great that we all found a ride we could enjoy together.

If you are looking for a great place for the whole family, then you definitely want to take a trip to Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown, PA. You definitely won’t be disappointed.
